The colors are gorgeous, rich browns and the wood is famous for its beautiful grain. The carvers used the grain so beautifully that the piece is a work of art. This stylized amphibian has a highly raised grain. Hardened by a lack of moisture and poor soil, the famed cryptomeria develops slowly, forming the prized grain patterns. Marked on the bottom:
