Description

The Powerhouse

The wagon is one of several pieces of horse-drawn-era equipment stored in the building since it was converted from a slab hut cottage to an agricultural shed

The post-war mining-town vernacular that once housed tens of thousands across Hokkaido's Sorachi coalfields

A green beauty salon sign still clings to the upper facade of a two-storey commercial building in Yubari

The mine ran from 1947 until coal reserves were exhausted in 2012

Downstairs Size:L The PowerhouseGraffiti reading "T: 15" marks the light blue render at the foot of a concrete staircase inside the Marina Picture Palace on Gardeners Road, Rosebery. Ornate damask wallpaper peels from the upper walls in long curling sheets, a single black cable trailing down the landing past scattered debris. Opened in 1927 to de Putron's Inter War free classical design, the building is the last surviving pre war cinema in the former Botany Bay district.
